- Buy a Telcel wireless card at the first port of entry.
- Load up on wine, the cheapest wine in Mexico is over US$6
- Sunscreen is expensive in Mexico
- US butter seems to be missed by a lot of cruisers
- A Kayak, boogie board is a must
- Carry more than one bathing suit
- Load up on canned chicken
- Load up on peanut butter, it is not like in the US
- Load on easy to grab snacks
- Don’t overload your boat with top ramen
- Don’t rely on an SSB receiver for weather info, it is very time consuming and it may never work with the computer software that you must buy separate for over $50. That is when a Telcel card pays to have!! We have always been able to get weather reports from other cruisers.
- Don’t set fixed dates for meeting friends along the way.. It can get you in trouble!.
- Carry 5 gallon buckets to do your laundry
- Get a small gas tank for your BBQ and don’t use the camping type ones, they are very expensive!
- Nuts from Treader Joe; I found that the nuts here are very expensive.
- Plastic containers in Mexico are more costly than in the US
- Good toys such as Legos are double the price than in the US
- Waterproof bags for those dinghy rides.
- Have more than one photo camera
- Have a couple of USB drives to share pictures and files with fellow cruisers
- Boat cards; with your names, the name of your boat and your blog address
- A cell phone with a plan for Mexico may be more valuable than the satellite phone that costs a fortune.
- The SPOT has been a nice device to have a for our families to see where we are.
- A Kindle book has been great for us to do simple Google searches and email.
- A solar shower.
- Learn a cool craft that you can share with other cruiser, bracelets, paper flowers, etc.
- Have good backpacks to carry your groceries.
